Once again the Canadian Hockey League is hosting their annual CHL Super Series. The series features a team of Russians comprised of players from the various CHL teams and some KHL players Junior players vs. the best Canadian players from the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). It is a 6 game series where the Russian Selects team will play two games against a team comprised of Canadians from each CHL league starting with the Western Hockey League (WHL). The games can be found on Sportsnet in Canada as well as streamed online for a fee.
Unfortunately for San Jose Shark fans Rourke Chartier (2014, 5th round pick) will not be suiting up after being initially selected to be on team WHL. He is currently listed as week to week with an upper body injury. The injury has limited Chartier to seven games this season for the Kelowna Rockets, where he has scored 3 goals and 1 assist. This should come as some concern to fans because they won’t tell us what the injury is, and Chartier does have some concussion history. Last year he was the last player to be cut from Canada’s Gold Medal winning World Junior Team. One would hope that this does not impact his chances of playing in that tournament going forward.
Western Hockey League Schedule

The Ontario Hockey League because of it’s size will actually have two different lineups that will play one game each as the Super Series moves east. This is where Dylan Sadowy (2014 4th. round pick) will get maybe his last chance to impress the Team Canada brass going into the World Junior Championships. While I think he’s a long shot to be playing for Team Canada in December, it’s not because he has had a terrible season he currently leads the Saginaw Spirit with 17 points (9 goals, 8 assists) despite serving a four game suspension for this incident.
Ontario Hockey League Schedule
November 12th at 4 pm. Pacific / 7 pm. Eastern. (with Sadowy)
November 14th at 4 pm Pacific / 7 pm. Eastern.
The Super Series will make its final stop in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where Jeremy Roy (2015, 2nd round pick) will see two games of action. Jeremy Roy is currently playing for the near bottom feeding Sherbrooke Phoenix. He has contributed 6 goals and 14 assists for third among all QMJHL defencemen in point total. I expect to see Roy skate for Team Canada at the World Junior Championships to help boost their power play. He had a very impressive Under 20 summer development tournament despite having it cut short from an open ice hit after a suicide pass from Vancouver Canucks forward Jarred McCann. Roy is one of the Sharks highest ranked prospects although his defensive game does need work an may be more of a project than fans may realize.
