Rise and shine Sharks fans! Grab your coffee, get your jog in, and enjoy the afternoon delight of the Minnesota Wild and the San Jose Sharks. Both teams are in the thick of a tight playoff race. The Wild sit as the top wild card in the West, while San Jose will enter today’s action in second place in the Pacific, but sit three points behind Minnesota in the wild card race.
San Jose comes home to finish their pre All-Star schedule with three home games against playoff contenders, including a rare back to back home games on the weekend. 6-0-1 in their last seven. Stretch it out to 10-3-2 since the return of Logan Couture, all things coming together.
Martin Jones has started to regain his strong start to the season. He will go for his sixth straight win, allowing nine goals in his previous five games. He is expected to start the last three games before the break. As for the Sharks, we’re expecting Dainius Zubrus to make his return likely on the third or fourth line. Here’s what we expect to see at 1pm:
Hertl – Pavelski – Thornton
Nieto – Marleau – Ward
Donskoi- Couture – Wingels
Zubrus – Tierney – Karlsson
Vlasic – Braun
Martin – Burns
Dillon – DeMelo
Minnesota returns to San Jose in a little over a month from it’s 2-0 victory on December 12th. The Wild are 8-9-2 since that win in Teal Town. They ended their five game losing streak on Thursday night in Los Angeles. Darcy Kuemper did not allow a goal in that game and is expected to start for Minny this afternoon. Kuemper hasn’t allowed more than two goals in a game since November 28, he’s allowed nine goals in his past seven starts.
We could have a goalie battle in the works in an afternoon matinee. Team Teal vs. the State of Hockey.
As always, we will have Pucknology After Dark… er… Pucknology Afternoon Delight after the game. Make sure to join us. We always take your comments, feedback, thoughts, and questions you have about anything San Jose Sharks.
