Timo Meier and The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies are on the verge of moving on while Alex Schoenborn and the Portland Winterhawks are on the verge of elimination after a busy night of CHL playoff action involving San Jose Sharks Prospects.

The QMJHL playoffs saw Sharks prospects on the right side of three blowout games.

#1 Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 10
#16 Drummondville Voltigeurs 1 (Huskies lead series 3-0)

Timo Meier added another assist bringing his point total to 8 as the Huskies Continue to dominate the Voltegeurs in this first round series, this game marked the first time that the Volts were able to get on the board and have now been outscored 36-1 in 3 games. If there was ever a time to put a mercy rule into Major Junior hockey this series is it.

#2 Shawinigan Cataractes 8
#15 Sherbrooke Phoenix 3 (Cataractes lead series 2-1)

Sharks prospect Cavan Fitzgerald leads his team with 5 points in the playoffs as he scored 2 goals helping the Shawinigan Cataractes defeat the Sherbrooke Phoenix by an 8-3 score and give the second-seeded Cataractes a two games to one lead in the series.

#9 Charlottetown Islanders 8
#8 Rimouski Oceanic 2 (Islanders lead series 2-1)

Sharks prospect Alexis Vanier continues to impress so far in the playoffs while many are still skeptical that he will get an Entry Level Contract from the San Jose Sharks. The defensemen added another 2 assists bringing his point total to 5 as the Islanders beat the defending champion Oceanic by an 8-2 score.

Eastern Conference Playoffs

#7 Mississauga Steelheads 4
#2 Barrie Colts 3 (2OT) (Steelheads lead series 2-1)

The Barrie Colts lost a heart breaker in double overtime as the Mississauga Steelheads are threatening to upset the second-seeded Colts taking a 2-1 lead in the series. If the Colts are to win this series they will need to better contain Alex Nylander. Kevin Labanc scored for the Colts to tie the game at two on the powerplay after adding an assist on the first Colts goal. Dylan Sadowy was held off the scoresheet.

Western Conference – BC Division

#2 Kelowna Rockets 1
#3 Kamloops Blazers 0 (Rockets lead series 2-1)

The Rockets would score the lone goal in the 2nd period as goalie Michael Herringer (UFA) made 40 saves in the win. Rourke Chartier didn’t factor into the games only goal.

Western Conference – US Division

#2 Everett Silvertips 5
#3 Portland Winterhawks 3 (Silvertips lead series 3-0)

The Portland Winterhawks played their best game of the series so far but it was not enough to hold off the Everett Silvertips who took a commanding three games to none series lead. The Silvertips were leading 4-1 before Sharks prospect Alex Scheonborn found the back of the net for his first of the season. Cody Glass would add a third winterhawk goal but that was as close as they would get.

Upcoming Action

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will try to complete their sweep of the Drummondville Voltigeurs tonight.  If they are successful they will play the lowest seeded team remaining after the first round of the playoffs conclude.

The Shawinigan Cataractes will attempt to take a commanding three games to one series lead over the Sherbrooke Phoenix as they continue to try and punch their ticket to the second round.

The Charlottetown Islanders will also be looking to take a commanding three games to one series lead over the defending champion Rimouski Oceanic.

The Kelowna Rockets will continue their quest to defend their title as they will look to gain a three game to one series lead over the Kamloops Blazers in what has been a very tight series.

Finally, The Portland Winterhawks will look to avoid elimination on home ice as they face the Everett Silver tips in game four of their series.
