San Jose Sharks Host Vancouver for Season Series Finale

San Jose Sharks Host Vancouver Canucks for Season Series Finale

The San Jose Sharks and Vancouver Canucks are set to face-off for a fifth and last time this season at SAP Center in San Jose. Over the course of this year, the Sharks have the lead in the season series 3 games to 1. However, last time the Sharks played the Canucks at home, they lost 4-2.

On the Canucks’ side, the NHL Department of Player Safety yesterday announced that Jake Virtanen has been suspended for two games for interference on Roman Polak from their previous meeting. Virtanen was issued a five minute major for interference and a game misconduct in that game. So, it’ll be interesting to see — like the Darnell Nurse incident with Polak — whether or not there will be any retribution by the Sharks, as last time Micheal Haley fought Nurse when the Edmonton Oilers had their final meeting here at SAP Center.

On the injury front, the Sharks are still without Marc-Eduoard Vlasic, Matt Nieto, and Matt Tennyson. Vlasic is still out with a limp. Matt Nieto is still dealing with a hand injury, and Matt Tennyson still has concussion issues.

The Canucks are still dealing with a lot of injuries, with Luca Sbisa (upper body), Markus Granlund (upper body), and Chris Tanev (undisclosed) day-to-day. Of course, as mentioned earlier, Jake Virtanen is serving the start of his two-game suspension. Alex Edler (fractured fibula), Brandon Sutter (fractured jaw), and Radim Vrbata (lower body) are out.
