Sharks Go For Split vs. Pens in Game 2

The San Jose Sharks’ first journey into the Stanley Cup Final came with the nervousness of a college student taking an exam after cramming the night before. However, Team Teal settled down to tie it only to have a defensive lapse ruin the comeback late in the third.

That being said a fast start would be welcomed for San Jose. After getting outshot 15-4 in the first period, Game 2 will be fast, spirited and very intense. The good news is they came back and put the Penguins on their heels and while Pittsburgh won the battle, the war for Lord Stanley’s Cup is far from over.

Lineup changes are coming. To add more speed, Matt Nieto comes into the lineup. Nieto was injured during the second round against Nashville and is ready to go. But who comes out? And where does Nieto slide in? Fourth line for Zubrus? Likely the spot he will be penciled in. Or to the third line with Joel Ward and Patrick Marleau

Speaking of Marleau, some were surprised that he was not suspended for the hit to Bryan Rust. Some on social media were playing the Marleau is a dirty player card. Yes, some thought that the two time Lady Byng finalist is suddenly a cheap shot artist. Besides the point, he will be in the lineup tonight. Amazingly, Rust is a game time decision according to Penguins coach (and original San Jose Shark) Mike Sullivan.

For Pittsburgh, barring Rust is available, we should expect no lineup changes for Game 2. Former Sharks draft pick Nick Bonino

San Jose needs a push back, and a split on the road would be huge to take back home to a crowd that has been waiting for a Stanley Cup Final game in Northern California. Play smart, head on swivel, play fast, stay hungry. Take advantage of every power play you get because the Pens may get the advantage due to the non-suspension. We all know that can happen tonight.

A huge game tonight. Do you need more coverage? No problem, enjoy our CHOMPversation with Sharks television analyst Jamie Baker:
