The San Jose Sharks face the Carolina Hurricanes tonight at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
San Jose is searching for their fourth consecutive win on this road trip, which has seen them take down offensive juggernauts like the Washington Capitals and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
They will play without the help of Melker Karlsson tonight, who is listed as day to day with an ankle injury he suffered Saturday.
Matt Nieto will draw into the lineup as a result of Karlsson’s absence. Nieto has no points in six games this season and hasn’t played since the Sharks fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins by the score of 5-0 on November 5.
Goaltender Aaron Dell will finally get his second start of the season tonight, giving Martin Jones the night off. Dell’s last start was on October 18 against the New York Islanders–a 3-2 victory on the second night of a back to back. He also relieved Jones during the before-mentioned loss to Pittsburgh.
Logan Couture and Paul Martin, who did not practice yesterday, will be in the Sharks’ lineup tonight.
Carolina is 28th in the NHL standings, ahead of only the Calgary Flames and the Arizona Coyotes. They have just four wins in 14 games this season.
The Hurricanes rank fourth in the league in 5v5 corsi-for percentage, but the horrific goaltending from Cam Ward and Eddie Lack has kept them near the bottom of the standings.
Shocking news struck the Hurricanes organization Thursday when forward Bryan Bickell was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS). The future of his career is uncertain, but we at Pucknology wish him the best in his recovery.
In brighter news for Carolina, Justin Faulk will likely return to the lineup against San Jose after suffering an upper body injury eight days ago.
