Sharks Work to Rebound Against Hurricanes

Overview

The San Jose Sharks face the Carolina Hurricanes in San Jose at 7:30 p.m. tonight during Giants Night at the Tank. This is the second, and final, matchup between the two clubs.

Carolina won the previous contest by a score of 1-0 despite Sharks goaltender Aaron Dell making 32 saves. Joakim Nordstrom tallied the lone goal for the Hurricanes.

San Jose is on a two-game losing streak following their five-day break earlier in the week. In both games, the Sharks have given up two goals in the first period, worked back to tie the score, and then lost on late goals against in the third period.

Though they are one of the best defensive teams in the NHL, San Jose has struggled to score goals. They have scored the fourth fewest goals in the league, something the team has historically been good at.

Forward Tomas Hertl is still out with a knee injury that will keep him out for weeks, and David Schlemko is still recovering from a lower-body injury that has him listed as day-to-day.

Dell is expected to start in goal tonight after Martin Jones played last night in Anaheim.

The Hurricanes are seven points out of a playoff spot but have shown a promising upswing compared to last season. They rank sixth in the NHL in 5v5 Corsi-For percentage and have the best penalty kill in the league.

They may not be in the playoffs at the moment, but this team is on the right track to take steps toward it.
