Sharks Look to Pad First Place Lead Against Panthers

San Jose Sharks Host the Florida Panthers

The San Jose Sharks are in a good spot right now. They are fist in the Pacific division and hold three more points than the second place Anaheim Ducks. They also have played one less game than the Ducks. Tonight, they’ll look to make it a five-point lead when they host the Florida Panthers.

San Jose is returning to the Shark Tank tonight after coming off a four-game road trip where they went 1-1-2. The road trip was disappointing for the team, but they capped it off with a solid 4-1 win in New Jersey last week. Tonight will be a test for Team Teal, as the Panthers have won four of their last five games and are now playing for a playoff spot. The Sharks can’t let their foot off the gas if they are going to win tonight and keep first place.

GM Doug Wilson announced earlier today that the club had recalled forwards Timo Meier and Nikolay Goldobin, as well as defenseman Tim Heed. It’s very possible we see Goldobin finally crack the Sharks lineup. He is currently third in points with the Sharks AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.

Martin Jones will be guarding the net tonight (no surprise there) and the Panthers will probably counter with Roberto Luongo.

The Puck is set to drop at 7:30 PM CT and will be broadcast nationally on NBCSN. And because there is a game before this one, expect the start time to be closer to 8 PM since the earlier game will surely go into a shootout.
