After a frustrating 3-1 defeat to the Minnesota Wild, the San Jose Sharks return to the ice to take on the Winnipeg Jets this evening.
Ok no theatrical dance moves planning to take place at MTS Centre tonight. But maybe some dangles from Patrick Laine and Patrick Marleau. San Jose did not have a morning skate this morning, but with defenseman Joakim Ryan back to the AHL’s San Jose Barracuda, it could mean that David Schlemko is at least ok to be the extra defender while Dylan DeMelo gets in a second game after coming off a lengthy injury himself. Schlemko is likely a game time decision to play tonight, but don’t expect the Sharks to take any chances.
The offense is getting a bit stale as of late. As we talked about on Pucknology After Dark, San Jose does have four 20+ goal scorers (Burns, Marleau, Pavelski, Couture). On the flip side, it also has a steep decline, as Melker Karlsson is the fifth leader goal scorer on the Sharks with 9 goals. Followed by a tie for sixth with Mikkel Boedker and Tomas Hertl with 8 goals. Here’s hoping the secondary (and for that matter primary) scoring pick up soon. Joonas Donskoi is a scratch likely and Jannik Hansen is still dealing with immigration issues (while Nikolay Goldobin has played two games for the Canucks and is already getting Pavel Bure comparisons on the TSN 1040 postgame show by callers.)
Barring changes, San Jose’s lineup should look like this:
Labanc – Thornton – Pavelski
Marleau – Couture – Boedker
Sorensen -Hertl -Ward
Haley -Tierney – Karlsson
Martin – Burns
Vlasic – Braun
Dillion – DeMelo
Scratched: Hansen, Donskoi, Schlemko (GTD)
For Winnipeg is hoping to extend a winning streak to three and have played exceptionally well and clawing back into a playoff race. Laine and company have hung in there and sit just three points outside the last Western Conference Wild Card. Should be a crazy one tonight in Manitoba.
